DWDM Wan Link - UDLD - Loop Testing

Hi All,

So I have two 6500's connected together with a DWDM Wan Link. The problem I currently have, is when the WAN circuit is connected e2e one end of the switch interface constantly keeps bouncing, whilst the other end remains stable. They are both connected using a 10GBASE-LR SFP at each end.

Originally the WAN was working OK, and then something has occurred, and is now causing problems. I had UDLD configured on both interfaces, and one end kept going into the err-disabled state, when this problem occurred.

I have a couple of questions I need answering pls.

  • When I looped the SFP, using a fiber cable, the interface kept going into err-disabled state. This is normal with UDLD configured on the interface? Correct?? I am supposed to see this behavior? I removed UDLD, by using the commands "udld port disable". I then looped the SFP, and now the interface stays UP/UP, thus proving no issue with the SFP. I then looped at the demarc point, between internal cabling and ISP hand off, and again interface stays UP and all is OK.

  • The WAN circuit is transparent, as when I shut one end on the switch port, the other end also goes down/down. However when the WAN circuit is connected through, one end constantly bounces, thus making the circuit unstable, and the reason why when UDLD is on, causing the interface to go into err-disabled. Is this theory correct?

I cant seem to pin down, where the issue lies, but believe it to be on the ISP side, as when they provide a remote loop, towards the bouncing interface, it stops bouncing. However what baffles me, the switch port on the other end , stays UP/UP, even when the circuit is looped. Surely, the other end should go down/down. Else what is the point of loop testing?

Config at both ends on the switch port is just , "switchport & link debounce 100" , that's it....

Regards
