EIGRP with DMVPN and more then 300 Sites

Hi Experts,

About Network

We are using HUB & SPOKE topology with DMVPN and over it we are running EIGRP

HUB Hardware : Cisco 3945E

HUB Bandwidth : 50 Mbps

Spoke Hardware : Cisco 1921

Spoke Bandwidth : Min 5M, Max 50M depends on site to site

Total Spoke sites : 300+

Issue :

We are getting following message, but fraction of seconds Tunnel 0 is comming UP again

Sep  3 22:40:26.513 CST_-DS: %DUAL-5-NBRCHANGE: EIGRP-IPv4 666: Neighbor 10.119.253.1 (Tunnel0) is down: Peer Termination received
Sep  3 22:40:30.649 CST_-DS: %DUAL-5-NBRCHANGE: EIGRP-IPv4 666: Neighbor 10.119.253.1 (Tunnel0) is up: new adjacency

Troubleshooting :

To identify connectivity we have created two IP-SLA for

1 IP-SLA is pinging HUB Tunnel 0 interface

2 IP-SLA is pinging some Public IP which is 100% available or Service Provider IP

Point 1: We are getting Drops in IP-SLA 1, but this is not happening in all site, only on few sites

Point 2: We are not getting any Drop on IP-SLA 2 it mean Internet link is OK at SPOKE site

Point 3 : On HUB Site, we don't have IP-SLA but in "sh ip eigrp neighbor" we can see many neighbors which are UP from more then 2 weeks

Observed following things

Tunnel0 is up, line protocol is up
  Hardware is Tunnel
  Internet address is 10.10.10.1/22
  MTU 17912 bytes, BW 50000 Kbit/sec, DLY 10000 usec,
     reliability 255/255, txload 255/255, rxload 90/255
  Encapsulation TUNNEL, loopback not set
  Keepalive not set
  Tunnel source X.X.X.X (GigabitEthernet0/1)
   Tunnel Subblocks:
      src-track:
Tunnel0 source tracking subblock associated with GigabitEthernet0/1
Set of tunnels with source GigabitEthernet0/1, 1 member (includes iterators), on interface <OK>
  Tunnel protocol/transport multi-GRE/IP
    Key 0x6C8FA, sequencing disabled
    Checksumming of packets disabled
Tunnel TTL 255, Fast tunneling enabled
  Tunnel transport MTU 1472 bytes
  Tunnel transmit bandwidth 8000 (kbps)
  Tunnel receive bandwidth 8000 (kbps)
Tunnel protection via IPSec (profile "cvo-profile")
Last input 00:00:00, output never, output hang never
Last clearing of "show interface" counters never
Input queue: 0/75/176340/0 (size/max/drops/flushes); Total output drops: 4677116
  Queueing strategy: fifo (QOS pre-classification)
  Output queue: 0/0 (size/max)
  5 minute input rate 17758000 bits/sec, 17344 packets/sec
  5 minute output rate 96109000 bits/sec, 22772 packets/sec
1599976943 packets input, 651583349 bytes, 0 no buffer
Received 0 broadcasts (19 IP multicasts)
     0 runts, 0 giants, 0 throttles
     0 input errors, 0 CRC, 0 frame, 0 overrun, 0 ignored, 0 abort
     2435946192 packets output, 504893206 bytes, 0 underruns
0 output errors, 0 collisions, 0 interface resets
     0 unknown protocol drops
0 output buffer failures, 0 output buffers swapped out

Can anyone help to identify the cause of EIGRP neighborship drop on this setup, this is only happening on few sites, not on all site

Hello

are you using multicast or uni cast nhrp peering?

if multicast is this being allowed on hub and spoke

Spoke

int tun x

ip nhrp map multicast (nbma hub )
