fa0/0 line protocol is down

hi everybody

I have 2610xm with a fastethernet interface ,i just set on this interface no shut command , but this port is working after some times it would be down with this message :FastEthernet0/0 line protocol is down , but in sho interface f0/0 the interface is up just line protpcol is down.

could you pls help me what is the problem?

When show interface indicates that line protocol is down it indicates that keepalive function on the interface is failing. There are several things that might cause this symptom:

- make sure that something is actually plugged into this interface.

- make sure that the proper type of cable is plugged into the interface (is it cat5 cable, is it straight through or is it cross over).

- check to make sure that there is not a speed mismatch between the router interface and whatever it is connected to.

- make sure that is the router is plugged into a switch that the switch port is not disabled, or blocking, or in some error condition.
