Failed MC7750 on Cisco 819 routers (C819G-4G-V-K9)

I just updated the IOS on a Cisco C819G-4G-V-K9 router from 15.3(3)M to 15.6(3)M2.  The reason I did this is because we are having issues with some of our routers where the modem (Sierra Wireless MC7750) have failed. Looking through the forum I came across this post:

https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/13149171/819-4g-cellular-modem-not-ready#comment-12048801

It seems that there's an IOS version that causes these modems to break.  We currently have about 30 of these Cisco 819s running IOS 15.3(3)M and four of them are having the same problem.

Cellular modem configuration
======================================
Modem is not recognized as valid
manufacture id: 0x00000000 product id: 0x00000000
Power status: Active

However, after upgrading to the latest IOS, I am getting the following warning on the router:

*May 16 18:24:37.182: %PLATFORM-4-CELLULAR_MODEM_SKU_MISMATCH: Cellular0: Mismatch detected between installed modem MC7750[SKU ID 1584083] on SKU type C819-4G-LTE-V. Expected modem for this SKU is MC7750[SKU ID 9902144]

The modem seems to be working and it is attaching to the cellular LTE network, but I wonder if it will cause any issues.  Should I upgrade the firmware on the MC7750? I have seen some posts of issues with FW 3.5.10.13 not connecting to LTE, but I haven't dig deep into it.

The firmware running on these modems is:

Hardware Information

====================

Modem Firmware Version = SWI9600M_03.05.10.06ap

Modem Firmware built = 2012/11/12 15:07:45

Hardware Version = 10

Device Model ID: MC7750

Package Identifier ID: MC7750_03.05.10.06_00_vzw_033.010_000

The latest FW from the Sierra Wireless is:

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

tricky. According to Cisco, you are already running the latest certfied modem firmware:

https://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=284772061&softwareid=284285628&release=3.5.10.6

However, that release is almost 4 years old.

I would take one of the 819 routers and upgrade to the latest firmware release (the one you suggested in the link), and check if that gets rid of the warning. Make sure you follow the procedure below:

Upgrading the Modem Firmware on Cisco 819GW-LTE-xx-xK9 SKUs
