FPR1010 FDM Sub Interface/DHCP Server [Relay?]

Morning

So I was debating about whether or not to TRUNK 6 vlans through Interface 1/7 [Switch] or to use Sub Interfaces on Interface 1/7 [Routed].

What I am confused about it that I seem to not be able to create a DHCP Server for these Sub Interfaces. I create the vlan and assign it a static ip but when I go to DHCP Servers, it does not see the vlan or sub interface. Then I was thinking being it is going through a routed interface maybe I needed a DHCP Relay, but nothing there mentions the Sub Interface/ vlan as an Agent.

Maybe I am misunderstanding the idea/implementation of sub interfaces.... I assumed I could have 6 sub interfaces w/ 6 dhcp servers behind it and then use main interface to connect to a switch etc... It can be 2 vlans or 12, I am just trying to get the default basic configuration down.

why do you need 6 DHCP Server, you need 1 DHCP Server with different Scopes, on the VLAN you use helper address

or am i missing something.

Currently using the SVI vlan approach. Was just trying to learn about Sub Interfaces. Home vlan, vm server vlan, game vlan, reverse proxy vlan and so on.  Not sure what you mean by different scopes.
Also using FDM.

I guess we can forget my setup, I’m just curious how I would have several vlans each with their own Networks and push them through sub interfaces. How would the end devices obtain their dhcp addresses for their networks through the sub interfaces. There’s really not a lot of good google results (which I don’t trust anyway).

You can have as many as VLAN and sub-interfaces (look any  Limitration of the product)

the process of getting IP from DHCP not going to change of the behaviour same, as long as the DHCP Server reachable to respected VLAN and SVI

Hello @TheGoob ,

are you using FDM or FMC ?

this can make the difference. Also FP1010 is different from other higher models as it can support VLAN SVIs so the possible solution is to create the SVIs and to configure the physical port as an 802.1Q trunk carrying the required VLANs.

You should be able to use a single DHCP server and to enable dhcp relay agent under each L3 SVI VLAN interface.

Hope to help
