Help with linksys wi-fi config.

hi everyone, im new in network enviroment, this is my first year.

i have a topology with the linksys router connected to a router and the router connect to a switch on a lan, but my problem is, i can ping from the wi-fi router to the other router or to any computer in the lan but the ping form the router and pc on lan to the wi-fi router does not work, i think i missed something small but i cant figure out what, file is attached, i hope sameone help me. thank you

Hello Boris, Since the linksys is connected via the INTERNET port to the router, the ping will not work.

By default, the linksys router has a firewall enabled on the WAN port and will not allow traffic through that interface. But it will allow everything on the LAN to the outside world.

You can try plugging in your interface from your router to the LAN ports of the linksys router.

the thing is when i go connect the cable to the router only gives internet, ethernet 1 to 4 option, i tried to connect to the ethernet ports but it is always red and i don;t see a option on the router to configure those ports. and when i go to firewall it does not give a option to enable ou disable it is optionless.

This was because router was probably powered off or lost its configuration since it wasnt saved.

I have completed your lab for you with the linksys router and the router connected on the LAN interface. You can not disable the firewall in packet tracer...

I had to enable NAT on the router since the default gateway was pointing towards the linksys (as correctly offered out by DHCP on the linksys).

The linksys did not know how to get to the 192.X.X.X network and that is why I had to do NAT.

thanks, i think i understood the principle, i saw that u add a ethernet 0/0/0 interface on the router, but the NAT part i didnt undertand, i do i enable NAT on the router?

Hello Boris,

The linksys wireless router is dumb and doesn't know how to route on the LAN. Its clever with the WAN but in this case we are not using the WAN.

The linksys knows about the LAN (the 10.3.1.X network) but it doesn't know how to get to the 192.168.3.X network, or the 10.2.1.X network. It only knows about the LAN.

So when we try to ping from the PC's or server we will be sending packets to the default gateway, which is the router. The router will then translate those packets with the use of NAT to say, all traffic should come back to E0/0/0 interface. When the ICMP or any traffic comes back, it knows how to get to the router - because its on the LAN.

Then the router translates it back to the original host and connectivity is successful.

However, from the laptop, you will not be able to ping outbound beyond e0/0/0 on the router because as mentioned, the linksys does not have any knowledge of the other networks.

Its a pain that we cant get it working fully, but with packet tracer there will always be limitations. It would be ideal if we could have just turned the firewall off of the WAN interface of the Linksys router.
