How does a router work out it's default BW on ATM interfaces

Hi, I have noticed that different ADSL routers display a different BW under the show int command, despite not having it configured under the interface configuration.

For example, one 837 I saw today has BW 832, whereas a 1701 has BW 576.

How does the router decide what to use for this value? Is it based on the router model or the specific HW used for the ATM interface (DSLSAR/PQUICC_SAR)? Is it negotiated?

Many Thanks in advance

HI,

The bandwidth which is displayed in <> or even <> will have different values.

U cannot rely on this bandwidth values,..need to change them to CIR value (usually) when using routing protocols which uses then in metric calculations..

the ATM interface and all subinterfaces on ATM OC3 shows 149M as bandwidth value, by default.

perhaps its hardware specific..

Thx,

G
