To anyone is this the procedure on how to upgrade the IOS on Cisco 891 Router using an external USB Flash drive.
1. Copy the new IOS in an USB Flash drive and make sure that the flash drive is formatted to FAT32. In this example the IOS on my USB Flash drive is named c890-unversalk9-mz.153.T.bin
The current IOS on the router is c890-universalk9-mz.151-4.M6.bin
2. Connect laptop directly into the Cisco 891 Router ethernet port with a straight Ethernet cable.
3. Plug USB Flash drive into the USB port on the 891 Router. Since there is 2 front usb ports in the front of the router does it make a difference which one I plug it into.
4. Login to the Cisco 891 router using Putty.
5. Cisco891#ena
6. Cisco891#dir flash
7. Cisco891#copy usbflash0: c890-universalk9-mz.153-2.T.bin flash:
8. Wait till it finish copying
9. Cisco891#configure terminal
10. Cisco8981#no boot system
11. Cisco891#boot system flash:c890-universalk9-mz.153-2.T.bin
12. ^Z (believe this is the Ctrl+Z key)
13. Cisco891#write memory
14. Cisco891#reload
15. Proceed with reload? (Hit the enter key)
16. Will till router upgrade IOS and Putty will disconnect and reconnect.
17. Cisco 891#show version.
Thanks, new to the CLI of Cisco routers.

Hi,
It doesn't matter which USB you plug in to. The directions are correct. You basically load the IOS in to a USB flash and insert it into the USB slot on the router. Then copy from the USB to flash and then change boot variable and reboot.
