Hi SAM,

yes you can, instead of one actually you need 2 routers one of which would an active one & other standby one.

for details

NOTE: Plz: rate if this helps

Dear Akhtar,

Please find attached Dig for your clarification.

Current Network flow is explain below.

1) We have one 6509 from where all traffic flow for all customers.

2) TWO 3725 router connected to 6509 .

3) HSRP is working in between tw0 3725 routers.

New Requirement of Network is given below.

1) One 3725 will connect to 6509

2) Second 3725 will connect to 3850 router

3) One Ethernet fron customer router will connect to 6509 .

4) Second ethernet from customer router will connect to 3850 module.

Can u pls suggest how this Scenario will work with auto fallback of any router.

TIA

SAM

What is the CE router? If it has the ability to bridge both upstream ethernet connections into the same VLAN (similar to your current design), I would say yes it's possible to configure HSRP on the 6509 and 3845(?).

I believe a dynamic routing protocol would work best in this scenario. IMHO HSRP should only be used to maintain high availability between WS and routers.

Thanks Dnewell,

Customer router are 1700 series .We dont want to add any extra features in that. Please find below wht i am thinking.

1) Customer are ready to give 2 ethernet ports.

2) So we create one vlan on 6509 & second vlan for same customer on 3850.

2) wE WILL put static routes in CE router for Primary Vlan & Secondary VLAN.

MY Doubts are

1) If next 2 routers (3725) which i show in DIg are running HSRP.

2) Suppose 6509 is connect to Active 3725

3) 3850 is connect to Standby 3725.

4) If Active 3725 Routers fail but 6509 is active then hw traffic will flow .

5) Same case for 3850 also.

Please need your suggesions.

TIA

SAM

FYI. Currenrly 3850 does not support HSRP. This should be coming in the 3.3.0 release due this fall.
