HSRP with RIPv2

Hi There,

I have a customer that wants to run HSRP in their network. They have two 6500 Switches with routing processors. On the WAN they want to run RIPv2. I just like to get some feed back or some configuration examples if this is possible?

We have assigned them a /29 WAN addressing and all i want to know if I can configure the switches with HSRP but redistribute it into our MPLS WAN via RIPv2. Any help or suggestions will be great.

Thank You

Teri

Hi Teri,

What you are suggesting is certainly possible. The fact that you are running HSRP does not impact on your RIP redistribution at all. As long as both routers are redistributing local routes into RIP., the MPLS network will learn about it and will be able to route back regardless of which HSRP router is active.

Hope that helps - pls rate the post if it does.

Hi Paresh,

Thank You very much. Would you know where i could be able to find a config example that i can use?

Does this mean customer will need to redistributing local routes into RIP?

Thank You again

Teri

Hi Teri,

The HSRP and RIP processes are quite independent so I can't imagine that you would find configs that deal precisely with this kind of setup.

The following is a good link on using RIP as the PE-CE protocol:

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/105/mpls_vpn.rip.html

As for the HSRP config, it will be no different to how you set it up in any non-MPLS VPN environment. Here is a link to some info on it, though:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/tech/tk648/tk362/tk321/tsd_technology_support_sub-protocol_home.html

Pls do remember to rate posts.

Paresh

Legend thank you for the info to0
