In which router should LLQ etc feature be used in enterprise network ?

Hi We have big bandwidth in network. But some people still suggest to use LLQ or other QoS features for our VoIP phone, which are needed to call outside phone. How do you think the issue ? If so, I think the Qos features should be used in edge router or bottleneck of the network. Do you think so ? Thank you

<Nagendra> Normally for VoIP traffic, one of the requirement is to have end-to-end latency within 150 msec. If the BW is huge and all traffic are following FIFO, a huge scavanger/non-critical traffic might introduce delay to VoIP traffic. This might be one of the reason for such suggestion.

<Nagendra> I would think it depends on your network. If you have any internal link that posisbly will be congested (during business hours or peak hours), you could consider it as a candidate position to apply QoS.

If your "big" is such that there's no over subscription, then you don't need QoS.

If there is over subscription, then transient congestion is possible, and QoS is used to guarantee service for some traffic, such as VoIP.

Even with over subscription it's possible your traffic won't create transient congestion, or if any is formed, it's not adverse to the needs of your critical traffic.  Again, the operative word is guarantee service.

So, the location of LLQ configuration should be in bottleneck of the network, right ?
