ip pim register-rate-limit - how to see if rate-limiting is dropping traffic

Hi

Im considering implementing ip pim register-rate-limit. Of course to protect my control-plane and RP.

Im not comfortable doing this, if I cannot see if traffic is being rate-limited or not.

I have no way of knowing if the limit I have chosen is too high, too low or just right....

Any suggestions for a cli command or snmp counter ?

Thanks

Christian

Hello

I am not aware of such a command to check the registered messages - However that's not to no say there isnt any - possible wireshark?

As initially I am on the understanding there isn't a set limit for this in the first place - Cisco suggests to set a relative low value to negate the load and drop any register messages on the DR and RP's that exceed the value you set (between 4-10) so I would be conservative and set it the higher suggested rate.

ip pim register-rate-limit 10
