Is IOS XR supports OSPFV3 adjacency for ipv4 similar to IOS ?

IOS-XR ospfv3 <--ipv4--> IOS ospfv3 ? 

IOS-XR ospfv3 <--ipv4--> IOS-XR ospfv3 ? 

Kindly share the configuration if it is possible..

Hello DSJ1,

as far as I know OSPFv3 uses IPV6 link local for building adjacencies for both address families IPv6 and IPv4.

So OSPFv3 should not be able to build an adjacency over a link where IPv6 is not enabled.

It is possible to use the link only for the AF IPv4 unicast, but OSPFv3 messages are IPv6 packets using IPv6 local addresses.

AF IPv6 unicast uses instance-id 0 to 31  (default value 0)

AF IPv4 unicast uses instance-id 64 to 91 (default value 64)

So OSPFv3 packets for IPv4 unicast use instance-id 64.

This is done because there is no other way to distinguish packets for each topology.

My scenario is like this,

ipv6 is enable already in gi0/1 interfaces, and loopback 0 advertised to ospfv3 for both AF ipv6 and ipv4

IOS ospfv3<-gi0/1----gi0/1->  IOS ospfv3 > here both side ipv4 and ipv6 loopbacks are reachable.

IOS-XR ospfv3<-gi0/1----gi0/1->  IOS ospfv3 > here only ipv6 adresses are reachable and ipv4 are not reachable.

So I think, IOS XR OSPFv3 neighbors are formed for AF ipv6 and not for ipv4, if it is required AF ipv4 routes, then we need to use OSPFV2 between XR.. Kindly let me know if it is different ..

Unlike IOS, ospfv3 on XR currently only supports address family ipv6, hence the results that you see.

is the support of IPv4 unicast address family in IS IS  in the road map for IOS XR ?

Because, as far as I know OSPFv3 with address families  (realms ) is supported in JUNOS.

Of course in provider backbone with MPLS enabled we can use 6PE or 6VPE to support IPv6 (and now also Segment Routing if I am correct)

As far as I can see, there is no plan yet on the roadmap for the support os address-family ipv4 in ospfv3 in XR.
