ISR 4000 AX - acceleration features

It's my understanding that AX is an enabling license but there's a few catches if you want to use the acceleration properly.

I would like a comment on these points

1) akamai connect can work  standalone, it will just cache internet contents

2) the bundle comes with 200gb hard disk, it fill fill up quickly so it's better to upgrade to a bigger drive

3) iwan requires you to setup cisco prime also, and it will not run standalone, it works by setting up tunnels between branches, so unless you have at least another site you will not benefit from it

4) the only extra cost you must factor in is for cisco prime; akamai, waas and iwan license are all included in the AX bundle

Is it all correct? any other quirk?

Thanks

Marco

Hi

can answer a couple of these to start it off maybe someone can answer the others

1) akamai connect can work  standalone, it will just cache internet contents

Correct we looked into akami its servers basically in locations spread around the globe you connect to ,means you break off the network to cache if you go that way in design its a bit of an awkward setup in reality  , we opted to upgrade our riverbed units instead so traffic is locally cached rather than being shifted across the internet

3) iwan requires you to setup cisco prime also, and it will not run standalone, it works by setting up tunnels between branches, so unless you have at least another site you will not benefit from it

That's incorrect we have IWAN in place between 5 major global regions and multiple remote offices in each region all interconnecting using IWAN and PFr without APIC-EM or Prime, actually APIC and Prime were very not even available when we started the design rollout , we used cli based design and then use a tool called live action to monitor and control certain aspects especially with wqos as our design is based on DSCP markings and how the policy decides which pipe the traffic will flow based on DSCP value seen , we use a CSR router as the policy based pusher in each region with one master CSR in HQ region

4 not sure but the licenses with ax the ones we only require for iwan to work are , adventerprise , avc ,firewall on the asrs core routers and regional 4ks appxk9, securityk9, ipbasek9
