lab mpls config

Hi,

I am working on setting up a lab with an MPLS router. I would have another three router connected to it as follows:

3560S --- MPLS --- 3560S

                   |

                   |

                2600R

The MPLS router is a 2811 with a hwic 9esw module in it. I need to guidance on how to configure this router as MPLS. I am not looking for anything complicated since this is just to test routing between the other 3 devices.

  Thanks in advanced.

Hello,

To see the MPLS in action, you would need at least two or three routers supporting MPLS. To my best knowledge, the 3560 series Catalyst switches do not support MPLS. I am also not sure if there is any IOS for 2600 series routers that supports MPLS. Having a single MPLS-enabled router in a network will not allow you to experiment with MPLS at all because the MPLS is about labeling packets sent between routers - and if there are no multiple MPLS routers in a network, there is nothing to experiment with.

Sorry to disappoint you. If I misunderstood you please explain in more detail what you wanted to test. However, with regard to equipment, you may be better off with simulation tools such as dynamips et al. for experimenting with MPLS.

Best regards,

Peter

Hi Peter,

I've got a 2612 running c2600-j1s3-mz.123-26.bin configured as a P-router in my lab.

So there exists at least one IOS for 2600 series supporting MPLS :-)
