Link down due to local/remote fault

Level 1

I'm curious what the difference is between the following log entries:

%IOSXE_SPA-6-UPDOWN: Interface TenGigabitEthernet0/3/0, link down due to remote fault

%IOSXE_SPA-6-UPDOWN: Interface TenGigabitEthernet0/3/0, link down due to local fault

What would be causes for remote and local faults? How are these determined?

"link down due to local/remote fault" message observed during local shut
CSCun88935

Description
Symptom:
A log message %IOSXE_SPA-6-UPDOWN: Interface TenGigabitEthernet2/0/0, link down due to local fault is seen while 10G interface is configured for admin down

when we do shut or "no shut" on a TenGig interface in ASR1k
link down due to local/remote fault

Conditions:
Seen only for 10G interface.

Workaround:
None

Further Problem Description:
This is only a cosmetic issue in which a level 6 informational message is getting printed while shutting down a 10G interface.
Display of "link down due to local/remote fault" message during a "shut" is not expected and is fixed with the current ddts

Display of "link down due to local/remote fault" message during a "no shut" is expected since the 10G SFP Hardware first brings down the link and then comes back up, this is observed with the link interrupts generated by 10G Hardware. Thus, "link down due to local/remote fault" during "no shut" is expected.
