Linksys - Old Model

I have not accessed my router for many years. I found an article to connect my old Linksys to a new one for better performance with Wifi. I went to 192.168.1.1 and tried to connect with my router. The password I have, and the passwords that were shown as possible use did not work. Do I have to be connected by an Ethernet cord to either 1,2,3,4 (Is this the old way to access the router?)? Or go and use the passwords given which are not working? If resetting the router can I access it on the internet with the 192.168.1.1, using the standard password, admin and password or admin and admin? I am sorry for these ridiculous newsy questions, but I have been out of going onto the router for years. I have not had any issues with the Linksys which is a very old model.

Thanks, Flavio,

Looks like a plan will do the information you gave me when getting the new Router.

Not sure about that.

Which one?

If you are trying to access a new router out the Box, Yes, you need to do it on Ethernet port.

Yes.

Thats ok. For new router, connect you PC to an Ethernet port.

For old router if you dont know the password, factory reset and start from zero.

If you have a backup it can save you some time.
