Looking for command.

Hi,

A co-worker of mine used a command to determine how many bytes per MAC address connected to a switch transferred. I think it might have been an accounting command but I can't seem to get it to work.

All I remember is it showed this data based on the mac address and showed how many bytes or kb for up and down. We would basically use this to see if data was being sent to/from a known mac or to see who was the "Top Talkers" on any given switch. Especially if they had speed issues.

Also, this may have been done on a router instead of a switch.

Hi Dan,

How about:

router(config-if)# ip accounting mac-address {input | output}, where:

• — input performs accounting based on the source MAC address on received packets.
• — output performs accounting based on the destination MAC address on transmitted packets.

router# show interface [type number] mac-accounting

That is it! Thanks a lot guys. One other thing then. Is there anything equivilent or similar to this for use on a Catalyst Switch?

Yes, it is. I do not know what version of IOS you are running, but this command is available in 12.2(33)

That command is definately there, but when I use it there is no output. (On the switches)
