Hi ALL,

We know that MPLS forwards packet faster compared to traditional IP network, But how can I prove that by practically (by using some stimulations). Can anyone please suggest or provide proof.

Thank You,

MPLS is faster than traditional routing because it's effectively fixed sized switching rather than variable size, best match, prefix matching.

However, today's hardware often has hardware that practically routes as quickly as fixed sized switching.  I.e. again, today, MPLS often has little raw performance advantage.

Today, MPLS is really more useful for its other capabilities.

Hi Joseph,

Thanks for the reply,

As per your suggestions today some high-end device switch packets fast as MPLS does, Assume that if i have some old device. And how to prove that MPLS is best (fast) than traditional IP routing in practical.

Thanks you,

How to prove?  Well, if you had an old router that did software forwarding, and which also supported MPLS, push traffic through it and see how traditional routing compares to MPLS forwarding.

Again, with today's high end "routers" (and/or L3 switches) is would be difficult to prove MPLS is faster than traditional routing

Thanks Joseph I will test on lab and will post if i get positive result.

Thank you,
