how can i do a proper intervlan routing using both a router or a layer 3 switch

If you have a layer three switch then it can do the inter-vlan routing for you. Once you define the layer-3 SVIs (switched virtual interfaces) for each VLAN you are good to go as far as inter-vlan routing is concerned.

What is your exact requirement? Are you using the router for termination of WAN links? If yes then the router can act as a next hop for the L3-switch for traffic destined to the WAN side.

hi,

if you are having layer 3 switch then by using svi you can do it so first of all check it out your switch supporting layer 3 function or not...

and if you are going for router for intervlan routing then you need to creat the multiple subinterfaces on the router...for each vlan and then confiugring the trunkline between the router port and switch port using 802.1Q or ISL.
