notify route-map change

Currently I have a Cisco 1941 router with redundant WAN connections via PBR; I can monitor the ip route via show ip route manually, but I would like a way to be automatically notified when one connection goes down and we switch to the backup route.  Is this possible internally via Cisco's IOS?

The only alternative I can think of is to monitor traffic on each port via MRTG or something of the like and when traffic on WAN connection 2 goes above a certain threshold send out a notification.

You can use eem if your IOS supports it. You'd write a script to watch the logs. When you see a link go down, it will write to the log and you can watch for it. Once you see it, you can configure the router to send you an email.
