OSPF metric type 1 not incrementing OSPF costs

I am advertising a default route into my OSPF database with the "default-information originate metric-type 1" command. I noticed none of my interface costs are incrementing. Basically not matter what cost I assign an interface, the metric never changes from 1.

I thought type 1 routes will always add the interface costs as it gets propogated.

Hi @jeff robins ,

To review details about the default-information originate metric-type 1 command, review this discussion:

Hi,

It must be changed. But

There is confusion statement in the OSPF if you are not looking router configuration carefully.  I remember a day when I was stuck on the same and after spending a few hrs I figure out that it was my mistake:

Hope, Your current configuration looking as:

Router ospf 1
default-information originate metric 1

But actually you are not changing your Metric type but you set your E2 route metric.

Let's change OSPF configuration as below:

router ospf 1
default-information originate metric-type 1

And now you will get success. This is my opinion where we can make a mistake during the configuration.

Deepak Kumar
