Passive Interface Doubt ( RIP vs OSPF)

lohit prasad

R1>>R2>>R3>>>R4  All are in same Area 0 .

Here if I configure R4 interface as Passive interface then R4 doesnot send any Route updates. As expected.

But why R1 link state DB is not updating ? why it still shows R4 info in R1 LSDb?

If I configure RIP on R1,R2,R3,R4 and configure passive @R4 then will R4 update route table   i.e. RIP update route table based upon route updates if passive interface configured ? for OSPF I see it completely removes OSPF routes when PI configured?

Hello,

with an OSPF interface configured as passive, it will not form adjacencies. The subnet the interface belongs to will still be advertised to the other interfaces.

What is your physical setup, are all routers connected in a serial way, with one neighboring interface on each router ?

Hi

Please find attachment. Yes.

When will LSdb gets cleared for PAsssive interface info at R1 ?

Hello,

default update interval is 40 seconds,4 times the hello interval. I labbed this in GNS3, and the the Net Link State gets updated after 40 seconds.

I verified after 10 mins, nothing happened.

Hello,

do a 'debug ip ospf events'...and post the output.
