Permament static route

Hi,

Can someone explain me what is the purpose of having a permanent static route? I would appreciate to be explained it with some case scenario.

So if I put for ex. ip route 1.1.1.1 255.255.255.255 2.2.2.2 the static route will be present in the routing table as long as the next-hop (in this case 2.2.2.2) is available. When 2.2.2.2 is not available, the static route will be removed from the routing table. But if I put 1.1.1.1 255.255.255.255 2.2.2.2 permament, the static route will be present in the routing table no matter if the next-hop is reachable or not. If it's not then the traffic will be dropped, wright? If some kind of traffic needs to be dropped then I can point him to Null interface.

Can this be the case of some network that needs to be specifically pointed to certain ISP, if there is 2 ISP links? Other than that, I don't have idea why. And I'm curious.

Thanks!

One use of permanent static route use is ip sla

If you have two ISP two default route and you use IP sla to detect next hop failed for one ISP

How you force router to use always this ISP for IP Sla?
