Policing via Police Vs Rate-Limit commands

Dear all,

While trying to apply some policing, i found 2 ways:

. Via a policy-map and Police command

. Via rate-limit command.

I wanted to understand both concepts and the main difference between using any of them; when to use what ...

One hint i got is that the Police command with the policy-map is less CPU intensive than the rate-limit commands.
