Port/Traffic mirror to a second server for backup

Hello,

    Assuming I have several hosts which transmit traffic to the server X through a router. How can I send the same traffic at the same time to a secondary server Y? I've read about port mirroring but can i use this function also for backup or only for network analysis?

     Or, is it possible to configure a certain routing multicast configuration on the router for this task?

port mirroring would definitely be an option; the mirror port receives copies of all packets on the corresponding original port, while the original traffic won't be affected.

Multicasting is probably the more scalable solution.
