Is it possible to link two Cisco 887VA routers over VDSL2? Or can they only connect to an ISP?
The aim is to use the VDSL2 link to route traffic between the two 887VAs.
If it is possible - example configurations would be fantastic!
Thanks.

The short answer is they can only connect to an ISP if using VDSL.

Thanks for clarifying. Does Cisco make any products that support this kind of VDSL link?

No.
For a start, no VDSL router generates a VDSL signal - the carriers DSLAM does this - and the router trains against this signal. Then the DSLAM often forms a layer 2 connection back to a broadband gateway, like an ASR9k. These are often connection with an MPLS core.
So to be able to just plug in two low end 800 series routers over a piece of copper cabling and use VDSL you are going to need to spend a very large some of money on some carrier kit.

Thanks for the info. Looks like there are some other products around that provide ethernet over VDSL2. I'll check those out. Eg Planet VC-231.

Hello JViney,
it is not a question of vendor implementation. Any VDSL2 solution is asymmetric and requires connection to an appropriate centrale office modem located in the DSLAM as Philip has explained.
You should look at SDSL solutions if there are still in the market.
SDSL could be connected back to back with a setting in one side (making it act as central office modem).
ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL, VDSL2 cannot be connected back to back.
Edit:
for example see the following for SDSL back to back
https://ma.juii.net/blog/sdsl-back-to-back-connection
this type of configuration was also possible with Cisco routers with SDSL module.
Edit 2:
I have given a look at the Planet 231 device. They sell two devices that can be deployed in pair with one that can act as CO modem.
So yes they can be used to extend ethernet over copper pair.

Nice to know
Hope to help
