We have observed that on PRI port of router that TEI parameter under Layer 2 is always Zero even though PRI is UP after we run command show isdn status .
But when same is checked on BRI port of router , TEI always carry some value other than Zero . What I think that this value is assaigned by PRI switch of Exchange ?
Can some body give some calrity ?
regds,
aman

Hi Aman,
For PRI the TEI value is always 0 which is a reserve value and is fixed and if you get any other value that 0 for PRI that means there is a problem.
These numbers can be preassigned (TEIs 0-63), or dynamically assigned (TEIs 64-126).
0 is reserve value for PRI
1-63 is for BRI which can be statically assigned
64-126 is dunamically assdigned value and most common values and you must be seeing any value within 64-126 for your BRI connection.
Most TEI assignment is done dynamically, using the TEI management protocol
