Redundant E1 lines

Hi,

we have a 3745 router with 2 E1 links going to one remote Multiplexer. Those links are made redundant by setting the same IP address on the other side (on both E1 interfaces) as well as on the 3745 side. It works very nicely.

However, I wanted to split the E1 lines between this 3745 and one extra 2611 router (both with HSRP on the FE side), each of which carrying one E1 to the same multiplexer! Each E1 serial interface of the routers still carrying the same IP address : it does not work anymore. One path is up and the other is "down" as before but taking the primary interface down ('shutdown' on the serial interface) does not bring up the other interface (on the other router) instead...

Any idea?

Thank you!

It is not possible to configure HSRP using only 1 router, even if the router has 2 interfaces. This may be the problem. The documents have information about HSRP confguration.
