In rip packet what's the use of address family identifier and route tag.

Address family:What kind of address is advertised. For example 2 = IP
Route tag: If RIP is used to support an EGP this contains the AS number

But in cisco(ccna) document i read that RIP doesnt support ipx,appletalk.Only EIGRP supports all other protocols.
usually, we dont use rip as EGP. Only way is redistribute route from other EGP protocols.So, it gets AS number from protocols like OSPF when we configured for redistribute dynamic am i correct?

in cae of IP address family has a vlaue of 2 always
yes when we setup redistribution route TAG carries the external AS number.
