Rip to OSPF

I just started with a new company. The network is currently running RIP V1. I want to convert the protocol to OSPF. I know what I need to do. My question is how much downtime can I expect(if any) when I make the conversion.

You can run both routing protocols simultainously while migrating. You should review your network and router capabilitites before implementing OSPF.

What are your reasons to migrate to OSPF? Have you considered RIPv2?

The network is quite large. Alot of bandwidth is used for routing updates using RIP. The routers have the capability of running OPSF with no problem, the change just has not been implemented.

You can migrate from RIP to OSPF with almost no downtime.

Set the admin distance for OSPF in every router to higher than 120 (distance for RIP). Once you have configured OSPF in all the routers and verified all adjacency is formed and LSAs are successfully exchanged, you can remove the distance X command for the OSPF process. Then remove RIP routing completely.

How many routers are there ? And are all these routers across a WAN or in the same building?
