Router does not display prompt when connecting using Serial port

Hi, 

I just got a Router 870 but when I get connected using SecureCRT or PuTTy, it does not display anything, i think it should display the ">Router" prompt. 

I have tried changing the bid rate and other settings but no luck.

Check your terminal emulation VT100 is always a good one.

Also make sure your set to 9600 baud 8 bits no parity and 1 stop bit (96008N1)

What kind of serial adapter and cable are you using, and have they been confirmed to work with other devices?

Where did the router come from, and was it known to be working?

What do the LEDs on the front of the unit do after powering on?

With default config the unit should be able to function as a basic switch, so if you plug some devices in to the switch ports and arent able to get a link on any of them, then I would suspect it may be faulty.
