Why route filtering is problematic with OSPF?

Between areas and when redistributing routes into an OSPF domain it isn't problematic.
However within an area it can be because every router has an LSA database and each router builds it routing table from that database.
So within an area when you filter routes on a specific router it only has an effect on that router and not any of the other routers in the area which is in direct contrast to a protocol such as EIGRP where filtering routes on one router can affect multiple other routers.
In general within an area OSPF is less flexible than other protocols not just for route filtering but also route summarisation as well.
