Can someone explain the "sho interface <interface_name> history" output?

Basically, it shows you a kind of grafic chart of the bandwidth consumption (either in bps, or packets per second) in several time ranges (60 seconds, 60 minutes and 72 hours), with the most recent measures at the left.

the charts are composed by 2 characters, an '#' indicates an average value, while the '*' indicates peak values.

Hope it helps.

Thanks, Ricardo!  The information definitely helps.

You're  welcome, Ed,

Also, notice the difference between the "show interfaces [<interface>] history" and the "show interfaces [<interface>]" commands.

The second one, also gives you a transmit rate (in and out), but it is just an average according to the binary exponential decay formula of Cisco, so it lacks accuracy.

Please, don´t forget to rate if you liked the answer =)
