Stacker Compression Requirements

Hi,

I want to run stacker compression in one of our WAN link. The link is E1 and both of my routers are 2600XM. My 2621XM has 128MB RAM and the 2651XM has 64MB RAM. I know I have a very small memory that's why I just want to run stack rather than predictor. The traffic that passes this link is just regular internet traffic and Exchange server traffic. Do you think my hardware is enough to run compression on the WAN link? Thanks.

John

I recall 2600s seem to usually be able to handle compression on a single E1, although it does impact the CPU, especially if you drive the link at maximum capacity. Also recall I usually obtained about 2:1 average compression and saw some additional latency. Recall one issue was it being all or nothing for the link. I.e. I would have preferred to only compress bulk traffic and not highly interactive traffic such as remote desktop traffic.
