I have not tested that way before but logically I don't see an issue doing it that way as the PAK is tied to the chassis serial not the supervisor serial , so I would think it will work fine , license team have issued new PAKs for me before over email in case it doesn't as you did purchase it so it can be changed if required

Hi
please see this doc regarding sup7 license files , you should have got a PAK with the new Sup for the license , if not contact who you bought it from , they may direct you to the Cisco license team who you can call or email
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/catalyst-4500-series-switches/white_paper_c11-685524.html
Note: Licenses are tied to the chassis but are stored locally on a Supervisor. Hence when ordering a spare Supervisor, a PAK is shipped with the Supervisor. Once the Supervisor is in the appropriate chassis, user can perform the above procedure for installing and activating the license.

Hi Mark,
the client had already a supervisor 7L with IOS LAN BASE but was not ordered later as a spare.
if I enter this supervisor already existing in the new chassis, I can use the PAK to run the IOS upgrade must be purchased or another PAK for the old supervisor?

sorry im not sure I understand that
are you saying you did not get a PAK when you got the new supervisor ?
to be honest it will either work or wont anyway and if it doesn't you could contact the license team in Cisco they can sort it out over the phone usually as they can bind the serial to any PAK you have once its legitimate

Hello Mark, I try to better explain schematically.
1. purchased new 7-L supervisor card with IOS LAN BASE
2. were later required advanced functionality and was purchased a PAK for license upgrade from LAN BASE to IP BASE
3. the customer was already the holder of another supervisor 7-L with IOS LAN BASE
Now, in case of failure of the new supervisor, if I enter the client's supervisor, I can be upgraded with the same PAK described above?
