Using a separate physical link for a VPN

Hi Everyone,

So I have two routers in two different cities , and an Eth-Trunk between them carries the traffic, we are using MPLS VPN (our IGP is ISIS), and using RR , now my question is we have a new connection a gig interface between two routers, is it possible that we use that specific physical link for a type of traffic? for example VPN-UP .

Thanks.

Re: Using a separate physical link for a VPN

Hello,

sorry for asking, but what is VPN-UP ? Either way, usually you can route VPN traffic out whichever link you want. Can you post the running configs of both routers ?

From a general point of view, Yes it is, you do have options which could include either policy route over this additional link or use an additional routing protocol like ospf, Then advertise any specific networks over both routing protocols (ISIS & OSPF) with OSPF being preferred path due the the lower administrative distance this then would provide you resiliency in case is you lost reachability through the new link.

kind regards
Paul
