I'm afraid I don't really understand what you mean by "One device is connected via L2", and "able to ping this device from L2 but not able to ping from L3".
Could you give some concrete example please? What are the addresses, and what addresses can you ping, and what are the addresses on the switch? Also, what model of switch are we talking about: a layer-2 switch like the 2960, or a layer-3 switch like 3560 with IP routing enabled?

l3-cisco4506 vlan7- ip 10.207.4.3
l2 switch cisco2950 ip 10.205.81.22
both are connected in trunk
device ip 10.207.4.1
which is connected to l2 through accessport vl7
i am not able to ping 10.207.4.1 from l3
but i can ping from l2
