Was wondering what is the maximum practical number of per VRF OSPF instances that can be created on 4948s.
I read somewhere that it is unlimited, but doubt that - and worried about the CPU load - we have a 4948 and without anything major on it the CPU utilization has hit ~60% - and this is normal as per TAC!!
Thanks for your help!!!

Hi sultan,
There is definitely limitation on the number of VRF that a 4948 supports. There is even limitation is bigger and more powerful devices ie 6500 with Sup-720-VS which only supports 1024 maximum. As for high utilization, 60% in not normal if you are not running a lots of service with lots of load on the device.

Hi Reza,
Thanks for confirming my understanding.
I wanted to get a feel of practical experience, particularly those from the community who have deployed multiple per vrf ospf instances (I am happy even with 60 instances), and issues - if any. Would've loved to lab this, unfortunately I don't have any 4948 with me at the moment.
