Does anyone have experience with the following situation?
Deploying bi-directional VSAT communication with the use of OSPF. My question in this particular case is how OSPF should be configured.
Fact is that I do not know if this VSAT can be compared with an Ethernet environment (broadcast multiple access) or with NBMA.
The idea is to setup a central hub location with multiple remote sites.

VSAT and other satellite bandwidth providers use a billing system based on the amount of transported data. If I were you, I would check first if this is also the case for this connection because using a dynamic routing protocol could otherwise turn out to be quite costly.
In general, the advice is to use static routing on this kind of links.

Good point, however this billing issue is not the primary concern. As remote sites (+/- 200) may have cascaded sites, OSPF seems to be the preferred option.

Well, not all VSAT providers use a form of per usage billing system. You will need to clarify that from the provider. With respect to the network type also, that will also need to be confirmed from the provider. Essentially and generally though, the VSAT technology is a point to point connection. There are some schemes in which you have a multipoint connection, but because of bandwidth constraints, majority of these schemes are implemented as non-broadcasts.
