What happens to existing traffic when I apply a service-policy to an interface

Hi There,

I'm updating the QoS service-policies in use at my customer. Testing shows that the policies work.

My customer has asked if the change will be disruptive when it is applied to their main WAN routers.

Can anyone direct me to any information about what happens in the few seconds immediately after a service-policy is applied, including any commands to check the impact of the change?

For example, will there be any disruption as the CBWFQ etc. data structures are created...

Many Thanks,

Rob.

Hi

The traffic will not be disrupted, I suggest do that after business hours if possible.

:-)

Hello

Juilo is correct in saying it wont be disruptive-- But I would say it depends on what the changes are.

BW allocation (Traffic shaping, Policing, Priority/llq queuing) etc can be disruptive if you experiencing congestion at the time of the change.
