Hi,
"WAN" section is almost fully automated. In case of Cisco, when you have DMVPN with VRF you need tunnel configuration, tunnel protection (IKE+IPSEC), routing etc. all from scratch. In case of Cisco SD-WAN, this part is done automatically and you are allowed just some changes if you need.
Plus, "WAN fabric" can be fully configured (LAN side, services+hardening) via templates which allows to push configuration to multiple devices at the same time. Detailed monitoring, additional troubleshooting tools, easy maintenance makes engineers life very easy thus you don't need "bigger" teams (cost). Plus, SD-WAN systems can be automated via APIs easily.
