Creating Wi-Fi Access Point on AIR-AP2802I-E-K9

I have an AIR-AP2802I-E-K9 device and I want to try setting up a Wi-Fi access point for educational purposes. Is it possible to do this without using Cisco Aironet? I'm curious to know if it can be done directly with AIR-AP2802I-E-K9.

Yes this is possible, you just need to use in in stand alone mode (Mobility express and not in lightweight AP mode controlled by a WLC)
