What are the worse-case scenario that can happen to users in the inside network accessing server in the DMZ?

it depends what did you put on DMZ.  If you put webservers on the DMZ, mail server on the DMZ then they will access the DMZ. Theres nothing wrong users access DMZ, which you can is allow the DMZ access your corporate.
