EIGRP in the Underlay\Transport VPN for IOS-X SD-WAN

I have a customer who has procured some cEdge IOS-XE SDWAN devices. They currently peer into their CE to PE MPLS connection using EIGRP. I can't find much on EIGRP support in IOS-XE SDWAN. Therefore I have a few questions:
 
Is EIGRP supported in the Underlay Transport VPN?
 
If so, does it have limitations as playing with the Code 16.12.x doesn't show much capability for EIGRP configuration.
 
Has anyone any experience of doing this or is a shift to BGP or OSPF preferable?

EIGRP support is NOT there on the transport side network on Cisco IOS XE SDWAN devices.
It is only supported currently as part of service VPN.

Could you expand on 'How' its not supported transport side?. EIGRP is a configurable option in the latest IOS-XE version and forms a peer relationship in test?
