We have a MPLS Site and we want to install Cisco Viptela SD-WAN Solution with internet circuit there. Customer also wants to leverage MPLS line till contract expires. Then what are best ways to use internet and MPLS line together..
We have 1 MPLS router and 2 SD-WAN Routers
Option 1 - Convert existing MPLS router into SD-WAN as long as it is compatible to run SDWAN IOS and make that as part of edge
Option 2 - Remove line from existing MPLS router and connect it to SD-WAN Router and make use of both lines
Option 3 - Keep MPLS line and router as is. Make routing differentiation from core switch pointing towards MPLS/SD-WAN interfaces.
We have OSPF running between current MPLS router and LAN Core. While we introduce new SD-WAN edges, can we include edge into same OSPF area or we need to create separate area for those new edge and later combine ?
In your opinion, what would be the best approach with minimal changes required ? Any other way to achieve above ask ? Please guide

For me Op2 is best
Connect mpls circuit to sdwan edge router directly.

Hi,
this depends on how much time do you have for MPLS circuit usage and cost.
What is the existence model of the MPLS router? Does it support SD-WAN? The point is new separate routes is additional cost (however, maybe you have several spare devices). By the way, what do you mean by "MPLS site", is it just one remote site what about other sites (HQ/branches etc.)?
I liked option 3 since you control via routing and simple path change will change traffic for site devices and you can decom MPLS circuit/devices - service itself. This option is easier. But if your contract has longer time and you want to use SD-WAN benefits via multiple paths then option 2 is good.
All depend on time/cost/criticality of the site - as always
Regarding OSPF, use the same area if you don't have any summarization case/ requirement from core switch point of view

Hi,
You can connect the MPLS link to one sdwan router and the Internet to the other sdwan router. implement tloc
extension and you will get 4 links.
In relation to OSPF you can use any configuration depending on what you need.
