Cisco UCS 3.1, Private VLAN, Nexus 9000 and VMware 6

Hi everybody!

I am writing this post because I need help configuring private VLANs on this environment.

I have no problems configuring a primary private VLAN and 200 secondary or communities VLANs on Cisco Nexus 9000.

I have also configured these primary and secondary VLANs on the vSphere 6 virtual distributed switch.

Now, I have two questions:

1. Should I also configure private VLAN on Cisco UCS Manager?

2. Or should I pass these from vSphere to Cisco Nexus just as normal VLANs?

My own answers are:

1. There is a limit of 30 secondary VLANs for a primary VLAN on Cisco UCS Manager 3.1.

2. I tried this scenario, but I have no connectivity between VMs on the same community. In fact no VM has network connectivity with anything.

Is there any way to link private VLAN from vSphere distributed switch to Cisco Nexus through Cisco UCS Manager or the Fabric Interconnect?

Thanks,

Sebastián Yáñez

Hi Sebastián ,

Q1)

yes, you should configure the PVLAN on the UCS.

Q2)

I don't think there is a way to pass this configuration from HV to the UCS, you should configure them on the UCS/VNICs
