Hot swappable 6500 parts question

I know that 6500's have hot swappable parts, but can you pull a 48 port 10/100 blade and plug in a 16 port gig blade, with the router still on? what do i have to down the blade before I remove it? Does anyone have experience with doing this sort of operation and what sort of pitfalls should I look for?

Thanks in advance,

Justin

All modules of the Cat 6500 support hot swapping. If you perform a hot swap, the console displays the message "Module n has been inserted." However, if you can perform that operation during a maintenence downtime window, and are able to power off the switch, I would advise you to do so. You can hot swap them as well, but a cold swap is preferable.

You can hot swap between different module types.

I typically disable the module to be removed.

Do the physical swap.

Upon the new module being inserted and recognized.

enable module.
