Hsrp default gateway in one DC and no HSRP in other

Hi,

We have 2 DCs one DC(DC1) has 4500 VSS as the Core and the other DC(DC2) has N9k switches as the core. Now in the N9K core I will be using HSRP however in 4500 VSS there is no HSRP required now if I extend the vlan between  DC1 and DC2 using ASR1k OTV how do I ensure that both the sites have default gateway local.

Is Filtering HSRP using the default otv filter-hsrp enough for this or I need to filter the Mac addresses.

You are correct, you'll need to filter out the HSRP from DC1 going to DC2 or your'll end up in one side as primary and all other devices in the listening state.

See this guide... Should apply to the ASR1K's as well.

Hi Rick,

Thank you for the reply.  My main question is lets say there is no hsrp in both the DCs ( in my case there is HSRP in one site and no hsrp in other site)  in that case is there a need to filter the mac-address of the default gateway or is it not required will the gateway be local.

If there is no HSRP at both the DCs consider I am using VSS as core switch acting as default gateway for all vlans then is there a requirement for any filter to be applied to keep the default gateway local.

No HSRP in the DC's will not require filtering,
If you have HSRP in a single DC and not the other I would suggest filtering out the HSRP on that data center side as a best practice.
