I am having problems with my Linksys router keeping a connection with my cable modem because the Linksys router keeps dropping the connection to the modem during a video streaming download.
My current setup is: going from my computer backwards to the internet, my computer is connected by an ethernet cable to a Linksys router model RV0041 and that is connect by an ethernet cable to a Motorola cable modem model SB6120. The Motorola modem is connected to my ISP which is Comcast (cable). I am using a iMac running MacOS X 10.5.8. I have upgraded the firmware of the Linksys RV0041 router to version 1.3.6. I have the Apple Firewall turned off, and I am using NetBarrier X5 as my software firewall.
The problem I have been having is basically whenever I try to view a YouTube or any other downloading video from another website the internet connection goes down. I know this connection is lost because I have software that will ping a website every 30 seconds. If the pinging software does not receive a response back from the pinged site, then I will receive a message saying the internet is down.
I know my lost connection is NOT caused by the Motorola SB6120 cable modem going down. I know I am losing the connection between the Linksys router and the Motorola modem. When the connection is lost I can not access the admin page of the modem (using http://192.168.100.1) for 10 or so seconds until the Linksys router connection is re-established to the modem.
Here is the Motorola modem log error messages, occurring on Jan. 27, 2010 around 17:32: 21, I receive when the connection to the internet is lost:

I have had Comcast out to the house to check their cable connection and it is working correctly. When try and troubleshoot the lost connection problem by bypassing the Linksys router and just connect the ethernet cable, from my computer, directly to the Motorola modem I do not loose the internet connection. I have also tried turning off the NetBarrier X5 software firewall to see if it makes a difference and it does not cause the lost internet connection problem. I am not sure what is causing the Linksys router to drop the connection to the Motorola modem and therefore dropping the connection to the internet. Does anybody have any ideas of what may be causing the dropped internet connection problem or possibly how I could test the Linksys router to find out what is wrong?
Thanks.
